This weekend I went to my first bullfight!!! I was soo nervous and thought I was going to be completely grossed out, but it was actually one of the coolest things I have seen so far this semester!!! Although they kill all 6 of the bulls (that part is sad), there is so much tradition involved in the event that it was very cool. The entire stadium was packed and the crowds were very enthusiastic about everything that was going on. One of the most interesting traditions is that if a bullfighter does particularly well, the crowd will wave white flags in their air, urging the president of the bullring to award the bullfighter a prize. We did see one bullfighter win a prize - the ear of the bullfighter he had killed! (very disgusting, I know, but still cool.)
Besides the bullfight, we spent the weekend wandering the streets of Madrid and getting to know the city. My roommate was with her godmother, so I had dinner alone with my Senora alone every night - which made for plenty of time to practice my spanish!
The one bad thing about studying abroad - I still need to find time to study! I have tests in every class between now and next Thursday (when I leave for Prague!). I was told classes were going to be a little easier over here - definitely not the case!! They are all the same or even more difficult than my Saint Joe's classes!! Don't these teachers understand how much sightseeing I have to do?
