A Semester in Spain
Tonight, at dinner, my senora told me that my spanish was getting better. Honestly, I was actually surprised because the only time I get to practice speaking is at dinner with her. When we are at school or travelling, everyone speaks English. We do talk in Spanish alot when we go out though....we try to talk to our cab drivers every night on the ride home. We even met some Spanish locals who brought us to an authentic botellon (pre-game) where everyone was hanging out in one of the plaza fountains. Last Thursday, we went to a Spanish bar called El Tigre, where you get a large plate of tapas (Spanish bar snacks - including bread, ham, potatoes with hot sauce, cheese etc...) with every drink. The only problem was we eat so much with our senora and we don't eat until 9:30, so we weren't even hungry for any of our snacks. Next time, we need to tell our senora not to cook dinner if we are going there. I'm sure she would like the break from cooking, especially since she spends the entire day babysitting her 6-month old grandson Jorge - who is the most adorable Spanish baby ever. She knits all of his clothes for him and even drowns him in baby cologne everytime they go for a walk!
Anyway, I am finally getting used to the Spanish culture and am very excited to stay in Madrid this weekend to finally get to explore the city for real. Between classes and making travel plans (which should count as a whole other class with the amount of work it takes) I haven't even had time to see the most important things in Madrid yet!!
