1 car, 2 pretty girls, 4 days, 1642 kms = ROAD TRIP!
So day 1 was a day of driving, only 648 km! Stop number 1 - Moeraki Boulders! These boulders are just sat upon the beach, they are extraordinary spherical boulders, like giant marbles. It is beleived that the boulders were not washed up onto the beach, but eroded from the mudstone cliffs behind. They are incredible and even more fun to take picture with, you can pretend to be flattened by them, be a hatching dinosaur or kick them like a soccer ball! This hour was just too much fun with a camera! On the way back to the car we came across a scallop still in its shell, watching Jodie struggle to release the shell was too amusing - there is a video to confirm :-) Well, after this awesome first stop our next few stops were just for car petrol and human petrol. Arriving at Te Anau early evening meant we made good timing - but I do have a heavy foot when it comes to driving here in NZ and not driving a mini. Te Anau is a small town on a lake with mountains in the background. It's a beautiful location. With it only being early evening Jodie and I walked through the little town and then went to the other side of the lake. This is where tiredness lead to the spiderpig dance, cheesy American accents, and in my handbag I have... A tampon, a cheesecake, a camera, a dildo, a pig, pink piggy shoes - you can't even tell pigs weat shoes cause they are camouflaged like cows and an intergalactic spaceship. Night one in a hostel - old snoring Chinese man = nightmare.
Day two to Milford Sounds :-) A breath-taking fiod, dominated by a 1695m high Mitre Peak. On the first cruise of the day, fresh breeze, morning sun - it was absolutely incredibly A-mazing! It is one of the most visited sites in NZ! The journey out of the Milford SOund consisted of picking up a hitchhiker, climbing to the top of Key Summit and walking the Alpine Nature walk. Then the big drive though to Queenstown. Bungi Backpackers thank you for one hilarious, near to wetting myself night. Tom the storykeeper told us a sweet as bedtime story about pumpkins, a dragon and a crack w****. With so much to do and see in 4 days every night was a late one and every morning was an early one and I was already starting to feel it. However, waking up early on day 3 was much easier knowing I was going to jump of a bridge! SO yes! I jumped, I did it, a bungee! I jumped of Kawarau bridge, a 43m fall. I can't wait till I do another! It was so incredible! From here the day just got better too- with a little pee stop in Wanaka, more driving where all you could see was lakes and mountains and then some more mountains! SO we headed to Haast for some lunch on the beach where I had a little bikini sunbathe and dipped my tootsies in the Tasman Sea :-) the stranger thing was happening, from the beach to Fox Glacier was only an hours drive. So Fox Glacier didn't impress me too much. I was impressed that the Glacier had moved 1 km in 10 years as it travels a millions times slower than water. Then to the last stop of day 3 was at Franz Josef where we stayed with a couple I had meet when working in the hostel in Christchurch. Thank you Jess and Wilson for your room for the night, it was comfy as and much appreciated! So it was the last day of the road trip and Jodie and I saw Kiwi birds in Hokitika and we had some good pastrys for brunch, driving onto Arthurs Pass, more mountains! When we got to Arthurs Pass we did a few treks and a few hours later headed back to Chch. Which leads me to say 'Heaps of Thank you's' to the beautiful Tucker family for taking me into your home every weekend, and I have to say your decking is the most prettiest I have ever seen Papa Tucker! :-)
Now, I'm back at the Peterson's home for Christmas time! Till next time, Merry Christmas and I hope you have an incredible holiday! Stay safe and peace out.
