Phewwwww!! Survived the 7 days at work, 12 hours a day. Aren't I on holiday?? So, it's been a while since I blogged about what I'm actually up to. I haven't been up to much. Not sure where to start but we'll go with I made heaps of muffins - brown ones, white ones and so real good peanut satay with my friend Jodie. I also went to the NZ races with Clemence, my new French friend, I got to see Vaea perform in the NZ Army band which was really amazing - that day I also won a bet and made a whole 80 cents! :-D Woopp!!! Erm, been referred to as a hippy, ate an amazing banana and caramel pancake, watched Avatar, been for some walks. Then one night I went to a party at Greg's house, where I arrived to The Rocky Horror Porno, followed by lights out fog party in the front room and the realisation that I was the only straight person at this party! Been on a McD's date, made some new friends, had bed bugs in my bed and was eaten alive, then got to see a professional bug killer in his onesie, had to send backpackers back to the aiport to sleep (it was sad), had another earthquake which made the bench chairs shake on the front porch whilst i was eating lunch ( it was only a mere 3.9 I think I heard it was) and booked my trip to here, Dunedin.
The drive was only a mere 6 hours! But the bus was luxary! I was just staring out of the window the whole drive, there is no chance I'll ever get bored of looking at this country! It's just so incredible! Even when the clouds are low and the sky is gray, it's still one hell of a beautiful country! Driving over and around another hill and BOOM! House everywhere on the hills, and you can see the city! Dunedin is actually like a little city, not many skyscrappers but it has a lot of funky little shops. So Friday I had a little tiki tour around to the botanic gardens, bought heaps of lollies (english translation = sweets), seen a few kinda 'old' churches and stuff! Got 2 awesome roomies and a top bunk :-D Moving on to Saturday!!! PENGUINS! I got to see them all o'natural! It was an incredible tour. However there was a dilemma with how I would return to the city (15kms) away as the bus oh dripped off out there and didn't pick up so this lead to me doing a naughty thing. I hitched! It was either walk 1.5 hours to the next bus stop or do the same with my thumb out! And it worked, a jeep pulled up in front of me and a gentleman named Phil from Ireland took me to the next town so I could catch the bus from there. So I was only in this jeep a good 10/15 minutes :-) it was a different thrill I hadn't had before, I was so scared cause of reading and watching about the worst things that can happen and my expectations of it being super awkward. It was like having coffee with a stranger "how are you?, where you from? What do you do?". It was a good experience so Carlin you needn't worry I won't do it again! So then I got dropped of at a town called Portabello which is still out on Otago Peninsula, had lunch, went to see Larnich castle and then caught the bus back to the city. My evening was pretty cool to, had hells pizza and Cajun wedges for tea with my hostel rookie and then headed out to the bars with my 3 hostel roomies, a Brit, a German and a Swiss! :-) woah, what a night!! So leading me to Sunday which Was bummed down by the rain- but it didn't stop me. I walked for over an hour to the Worlds Steepest Street, Baldwins Street. The street is so steep it had stairs! Check out my Facebook pictures and on my way back to the hostel i had a quick tour of the Cadbury factory, free chocolate for every question you get right and if you are wearing purple- and yes I was wearing my Lakers jersey! So got a bus to catch in a an hour, thank you Dunedin for the fun times. Now back to Christchurch :-) home sweet home!
