12th day in N.Z and I am pretty much in love with the way of living. I thought it was about time I reported on my time here so far. It's been pretty awesome, done the sites of Carterton, been into the Capital - Wellington and flew to Auckland for the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup.
The RWC opening ceremony being the major part of my trip so far, and the day before this we had a new arrival- Toby! It was an intense time in the city of Auckland, hundreds of thousands of people, good company and rugby, what more could I ask for? The city had an amazing feel to it, people were awesome - the media is not giving the Opening Ceremony a good report. Everything that was reported on the news this past week I didn't see on the streets. If people who struggling with the crowds then we let them out, we didn't throw abuse or bottles at the Haka dancers. I'm a bit upset that the evening was betrayed so badly. So I need to have a little shout out to the Webb family for letting us strangers stay in their home for the time we were in Auckland! It was much appreciated, and I'm sure we'll be back :-)
So after watching the All Blacks win, there was a concert in the cloud. I had a little boogie to Midnight Youth and Kora. Followed by a bus journey home, following a stranger through a multi-storey car park and taking an unness 40 minute walk back to the house. We ended the weekend with a little wak around Devonport, just over the bridge from Auckland City.
I have super big news, so after an easy week from the RWC Opening Ceremony, I have been to Castlepoint, been in a fire engine, been eeling (hunting for eels), seen Bailey attend her ball and ate Hoki (fish). From now I have to pack as yesterday I was able to get a job in Raetihi, 4 hours north of Carterton. With a crazy weekend ahead of me, Fiji vs South Africa and a night out in Wellington to look forward too, I will be starting work on Monday. I will be working as a lodge assistant, no pay but with free accommodation and meals. I'll let you know how it goes for sure.
