Today was a travel day for us. We left Disney World and headed to Tybee Island in GA about 315 miles north.
We headed out about 10AM and are going to stop in Jacksonville to visit family. We intended to do this on the way down last week, but with the refrigerator issue we lost time and did not make it to Jacksonville that evening.
An hour into the drive we were still in the Orlando area. It was a slow go due to high traffic volumes exacerbated by contruction. We stopped for gas, and by coincidence we pulled out in the same exit as we stopped for lunch on the way down a week ago. 161 miles 2.5 hr drive turned to 4 hrs and we arrived in the Jacksonville area around 2PM. We headed to park at the Walmart near our family. while waiting for our cousin to meet us there I did some shopping to replenish some items we needed.
Our cousing drove us aorund in the SUV to visit the rest of the family. It was great catching up and we are thankful she was willing to drive us around. We enjoy being able to visit them almost every time we come through the area.
About 7PM we headed out to complete the rest of our 2 1/2 hr - about 150 mile drive. The boys were hungry for dinner and lucky for them there was a Chic fil A on our route. We stopped for take out and I drove the rest of the way while they ate.
We arrived at the campground about 10:15PM and got our check-in instructions from the after hours box. Gil drove us to our site while I walked with the map following the directions and spotting him. The roads in the campground were tight and it was dark. The site was a pull in, which given the circumstances was easier than backing in.
We put the jacks down and were connected in no time. We are settled inside and it feels great to head to bed with no early plans tomorrow. Looking forward to relaxing and being on island time.
