Today I departed Australia and set course for New Zealand, and the next leg of my epic adventures.
Dragging the suitcase behind me I left the hotel and walked to the free tram zone and boarded one of the swanky new trams to get to Southern Cross Station.
Here I joined the long queue for the SkyBus to the airport. As soon as one bus was loaded, the next one was available and I'd boarded within 10 mins of arriving. Only 20 mins later I was at the airport. A very impressive and efficient service.
I smoothly proceeded through the formalities and arrived at the gate in time to see our plane arrive. Wow, how exciting, I'm flying by dragon! It's a shame there was nowhere to take a photo of the plane with Smaug emblazoned down the side.
It's worth checking out the Air New Zealand safety video on you tube. It's an epic based on Lord of the Rings.
Just a smidge over 3 hours after take off, we approached Auckland airport from the west with dramatic views of the landscape and coast.
New Zealand quite rightly have strict bio contamination rules, and it's worth declaring anything you have that they may be interested in. So, having brought in mustard as a gift for my hosts for the weekend, and used walking boots in Australia, I owned up. A quick search and I was through to be greeted by my friends and driven to their abode. Although the other side of Auckland, it only took about 30 mins.
We then had time for a natter over a tasty BBQ (just as well I hadn't eaten on the plane) before it was time to retire for the night.
