Today started a bit cloudier than of late, but the sun was threatening to break through.
A relaxing start to the morning was followed by a quick drive to Bluff to board the ferry to Oban on Stewart Island, a crossing lasting about an hour. We then partook of a light lunch before exploring the area.
We walked to Observation Rock for an overview of the surroundings, where we could see that a cruise ship was in. We continued on to Golden Bay, opposite Iona Island. Then we took the coastal path round to Deep Bay before heading back across the island to Halfmoon Bay and Oban. A very pleasant and picturesque walk, and the sun did indeed manage to make an appearance.
Back on the mainland, we drove a couple of kilometres to Stirling Point at the southern most end of SH1 to take photos by the inevitable signpost.
Finally we got back into Invercargill for something to eat before retiring for the night. We dined at the Speight's Ale House where I had lamb shank.
JB had an easy day, covering just 80km.
