HARBIN, Heilongjiang Province:
Got up and checked out of the minging hostel, and got a taxi to the hotel we're staying at for the rest of the time. Not before falling flat on my arse though, the ice is very slippery! Felt a bit silly, and it really hurt! Sarah was good though and didn't laugh (outloud anyway!)
The hotel we're staying it is much nicer, and some friends are staying at the same one. We met up with them - Kirsty, Pete, Alexis and David, before walking to an old English style cafe we used to go to when we were in Harbin for TEFL training.
Ate a big breakfast (chips, beans and a toastie!), and then we got taxis together to the Harbin Ice and Snow World. This was huge buildings - made of ice and snow! It was so beautiful, really hard to describe!
As well as all the buildings, they had a few sculptures and some slides - I went on a rubber ring down a slope, an ice-bike and some ice slides! The ice slides looked really scary, but they were actually quite difficult to slide down quickly! Which was hilarious, but gave me a numb bum!
The Ice and Snow World was surprisingly empty, I thought it would be rammed! In the evenings to buildings are lit up, so I think it will be busier later. The cold was actually bearable - we had to duck inside for an occasional coffee to thaw out, but in small doses it was OK. I was wearing loads of layers though!
Alexis and David left to get a train down to Hong Kong, and the 4 of us who were left headed over to Harbin's Walking Street for some food, and then we went to Zhaolin Park for the ice sculpture competition entries, and the Disney Ice Show.
It was dark by the time we got to the park, so all the ice was lit up in different colours! It was really magical! There were different sections - Toy Story, Aladdin, Winnie the Pooh (who had visciously attacked poor Piglet), Pirates of the Caribbean, and loads of others! There was also a big ice castle, with a lift built into it!
After a while the cold got too much (I had to buy some mittens to go over my gloves!), so we went back to the hotel to warm up a bit, before going to Sky bar to meet up with Johannes, Amy and Angela. Was nice to see them all again, and cool to be back at Sky! The bar staff remembered me! (is that good or bad?? haha)
