So first full day in CM. I was looking at hiring a motorbike to take up Doi Suthep (there's a temple at the top and stunning views) however the clouds were starting to get dark and about to rain (probably wouldn't see anything up there) and so I bailed on that idea. Wow....sleeper trains! 16 hrs trip up to chiang mai set off 10pm. I had a top bunk which was cozy. If you were any bigger than me you would struggle. Even though it was a long trip it was fairly pleasant. Train broke down for an hour or two. I'd met a bloke from Lancashire at the train station he was doing 3rd class whilst I was 2nd. Continued..... So from the informative seat61.com website it says you can book a 2nd class a/c sleeper to CM the day before. It seems you can't - they had a 2nd class non a/c which arrived at 5 am. So I ask about the next day - they have space on a train with a better arrival time but still 2nd class no a/c, he says there is a fan, I ask if 'the fan will be ok for me?'.........he laughs. I wasn't too sure which way to take his joyous reply so I booked it anyway....
