Wow....sleeper trains! 16 hrs trip up to chiang mai set off 10pm. I had a top bunk which was cozy. If you were any bigger than me you would struggle. Even though it was a long trip it was fairly pleasant. Train broke down for an hour or two. I'd met a bloke from Lancashire at the train station he was doing 3rd class whilst I was 2nd. From what he said and photos it didn't seem too bad either. In the morning they fold up the beds and watched the green mountains go rolling by.
Met up with Rob at chaing mai who had met a polish fella. We got to the hotel, very nice and cheap for what you get (pool, breaky, wifi etc). They grabbed a room here too. Went and got some food and headed to a near by wat. The monks were in prayer and with the chanting (very soothing) and irregular sleep on the train I was nodding off. It's nice to be out of the chaos of Bangkok and it's nice and chilled here. Dont get hassled for tuk Tuks on every corner and locals are very accommodating. On the way back we saw some kids playing a cross between volleyball and footy (it has a few names, can't remember the spelling but it translates as 'kick ball') me n rob asked for a game...it's brilliant! We should be playing it in the uk. Bit sore bare foot mind. The mid day heat and 2 very skilled 10 year old Thai kids meant half hour was rather tiring so headed back to the hotel. Later on rob's mate chris from porthcawl came up and we headed for a few drinks. Rather cool bar that was up loads of rickety stairs, low ceiling, sit down on matts sort of thing. After a couple of hours headed back get some rest.
