So this is when the little saga begins. We arrange a tuk tuk to head back to hotel. On the way to the night market i sat next to the driver on the battery and the three others in the back so with this one Rob offered to take that seat. Long and Chris got in the back and as i was getting in the driver decides to go whilst my feet are still outside. The wheel hits my right foot and i ammediately thought 'God Damn you - i'm supposed to be trekking tomorrow'. This was a millisecond of brain function and then i turned my attention to yelling at the driver whilst trying to pull the tuk tuk back and release my foot. I got it out and then tried to jump in again - Same bloody thing - he drives off whilst my left foot is still out and catches that under the wheel. More shouts and i was in bit of a mangled position at which point Rob spotted it and pulled the vehicle back.
Shortly after i thought i'd got away with it and it was gonna be just a bump. When i got out and into the light however, i realised it could be a different story.
At the hotel there were of group of Brits outside - Rob's shout out of 'any one practising medicine? - doctor? - nurse?' was replied with a Yeah! but they didnt seem too bothered to offer a hand. The guy at reception was really good (his mate was saying he was a doctor - practising doctor that is). I gave it a quick clean and he poured hydro-something-or-other over which stang. Whilst i was winsing the lads were plonking beers and ciggies in front of me (Nice One Fellas!) and i was bandaged up. Another guy said i should be putting something different than the hydro-stuff, Betadine (?) to stop infection and he ran up to his room to get me a bottle (which he said i could have - very nice of him). After a couple more beers eventually headed to bed and thought i'd reassess in the morning. I was contemplating the trek - apart from the hydro stuff it didnt feel to bad.
The morning told a different story - after the painkillers had worn off. I didnt want to head to the jungle with a gammy foot. So the lads went off and then i hung around and had breaky. The photo of my foot was on Facebook and i hadn't updated a explanation as to what happened etc and so started to get messages from you folks at home. Made some calls to say i was fine and i was walking on it ok. I changed the bandages - the gauze was stuck so pretty painful. Then i headed out (on foot!) to the pharmacy to get some more dressings etc. I could walk fine (forget that i had taken more painkillers) and so went and had some Khao Soi (bit too creamy for my liking). Had a sleep and read my book.
In the evening, my feet were stiffening up and aching a fair bit so just watched thai tv - silly program about manners in Japan, some wrestling (don't know why) and a French film called 'Rumba' - rather quirky - bit odd. I was planning on doing Doi Suthep (the mountain with the temple) the next day.
