We woke to a stormy and raining New York this morning. Today was the day we had booked a 4 hour private tour of New York with Cliff Strome. We only booked the tour a few days ago when I arrived home with very sore feet, desperately wondering how I could get to see more of this fabulous city without walking everywhere. So I jumped on trip advisor and found Cliff and his private guided tours - rave reviews - kept my fingers crossed that he had a space for us. What a fabulous day. He picked us up from the hotel at 9.30am with our driver Felix. Both of them are NY born and bred and you could not get a better way to be introduced to the history, stories and tales of this great city. Our first stop was the 9/11 memorial (another thing on my bucket list for this trip).
The September 11 Memorial is a tribute of remembrance and honour to the nearly 3000 people killed inthe terror attacks of September 11 at the World Trade Centre site, the crash site in Pensylvania and the Pentagon. The site contains two reflecting waterfool pools each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest manmande waterfalls in North Amercia. The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood. The names of every person who died in the atacs are inscribed into bronze panels edging the memorial pools. The site is surrounded by white oak trees and gardens and also contains the survivor tree, a white pear tree that survived the attacks and was nursed back to health and replanted at the site just last year. There are many new buildings surrounding the site and the newest of them all is One World Trade Centre Number which is almost finished, It is impressive. It was a moving experience visiting the site and I would recommend it to anyone coming to NYC.
We then headed off to other landmarks around the city including the statue of liberty, the brooklyn bridge and Jane's carousel. We heard the history of the FlatIron building and the Empire State building. Cliff took us to the Chelsea market, we walked on the Highline, a railway line built above New York that has been coverted into a walkable park - absolutely beautiful and well worth the visit. We finished at Eataly - OMG this is a wonderful place full of Italian food, wine and wares. We will definitely be coming back here with Steve and Chelle.
Cliff gave us two beautiful photos of New York he had taken as a momento of our trip and safely delivered us back to our hotel. What a fabulous day and no sore feet!!
Tomorrow we are off to Century 21 (to try shopping again) and then the Intrepid Sea and Air Museum for the day. It is our last full day in New York before we head off to Niagara Falls on Wednesday.
Lots of Love

Margaret Luscombe It is 3.25 am Lisa so don't know what time zone I am in. I just love reading your blogs. You tell very narrative and interesting details of what you are seeing. NY sounds wonderful but I think you must have done a lot of research to know exactly what and where to spend your time.
