We had today planned down to the last minute and it was great but exhausting! Still in the mid to high 30s in New York so we decided to get up and hit the pavements by 7am. Amazing how many people had the same idea - or perhaps it is always like this in the city that never sleeps. Off to NBC Today to participate in the live recording of the Today show. Kenny Chesney performed live as part of their concert series and it was a great atmosphere.
Top of the Rock observatory opened at 8am and we were one of the first in the lift that takes 45 seconds to travel 67 floors. WOW what a view! We spent some time right at the top working out the landmarks of NYC. It gives a great perspective of how large Manhattan Island is and also how wonderful it is to have Central Park bank smack in the middle.
Only in New York we also watched a wedding on Top of the Rock (check out the picture) and joined in the clapping when pronounced man and wife!
Back down to ground level and time to famiiarise ourselves with the Rockefeller Centre - heaps of shops and eateries over 2 levels. A bit of a maze for me but Oli knew exactly where he was going and even pointed out that I had taken us in one giant circle! Why do boys have such a good sense of direction?
We then went to Nintendo world - full of pokemon and every nintendo ds and wii game ever invented and off to the lego shop and the museum of modern art shop (will be going back here as have my eye on a couple of things).
Jumped in a taxi and headed over to the American Museum of Natural History - it was airconditioned and Oli was keen on spending some time at the Rose Centre for Earth and Space It didn't disappoint and we were treated to some very interesting exhibits and shows. The highlight was the space show Journey to the Stars which was shown in the Planetarium with real live footage from telescopes - amazing.
The jetlag started to catch up with us and the storms were rolling in so we called it a day and headed home to the air conditioned room. Oli fell asleep within minutes of getting home and hasn't surfaced poor thing.
Haven't planned our day tomorrow but I think it will involve Macy's and shopping and if the weather is good a visit to the Inteprid Museum. We are off to see Spiderman on Broadway on Sunday which will be exciting.
Until the next time guys see ya!
