Sunday in New York was a perfect day. Blue sky and about 27 degrees and so clear. Our plan was to see a matinee on broadway, tickets go on sale at 11am in Times Square (50-70% off) and I gave Oli the choice of any show he wanted. I secretly wished he would choose Lion King, Mary Poppins or Priscilla Queen of the Desert. WRONG. It was Spiderman Turn Off the Dark - my very first broadway show (and his). Oh well it was a mother and son trip so I rallied and said how very much I was looking forward to it (or was I thinking about Mamma Mia next week when Chelle and I dance in the aisles to Abba). Anyway we had a few hours to kill before the 3pm matinee so it was off to Central Park. My trip advisor research had suggested either a horse and carriage ride or a Pedicab - sort of like a richshaw ride. Try as I might to get Oli to agree to the horse and carriage we ended up on the Pedicab with a very nice guide from Mali in Africa. The trip lasted about an hour and he was very knowledgable about which movies were made where and which movie stars lived in which buildings over looking the park. Oliver recognised a number of landmarks from Home Alone and we saw the central park zoo where Madigascar originated. The park is wonderful and there were heaps of people sunbaking, riding and jogging. We are definitely going back to sail the boats on the lake!
Off to Spiderman at Foxwood Theatre on Broadway and what a performance with spiderman trapezing across the entire theatre - no wonder we were told to keep our heads down. Oli enjoyed it too which was great as it is hard to get him excited about much.
All in all a lovely Sunday in New York.
We have a private guided tour of New York booked for Monday (another trip advisor find) which I am really looking forward to.
