Day 7: Up at 4am this morning, not very nice! We were meant to leave the hotel at 5.45am but didn't get away until 5am (seems to be the same ones always late, and it's not me!!) We were caught up in a queue at the airport, and ended up being rushed through as the flight was boarding. We had to run to the gate, but still made it in time! Day 6: This morning we drove down to the Mekong Delta, where we took a boat from My Tho across the Mekong river to Unicorn Island. We changed into smaller boats (sampans) and cruised up one of the canals. We visited a fruit orchard and sampled the interesting range of local produce, then moved on to enjoy a lunch with a very hospitable community. Day 5: Big day today, beginning with an 1 i/2hr bus ride to the Cu Chi Tunnels, well known for the Viet Cong's part in the Vietnam War. Quite a strange place really, with rifle fire going off, and pretend land mines 'blowing up' every so often. Scared the living daylights out of me I can tell you!! Quite unecessary really!! Day 4: Sunday - we decided today that we would find some landmarks that we wouldn't be looking at on our tour. So did quite a bit of walking (again) It's great that everything is so close to where we are, but the footpaths leave a lot to be desired! All uneven, and if you're not dodging the broken pavers and debris, you're dodging the motorbikes! But we are getting used to it, all the same. Saigon is a terrific city, and so easy to get about. Day 3: The weather has been quite warm, and so have been going out discovering early, then relaxing in the afternnon, before we go out for dinner later when it's cooler.
