Hello everyone, Happy Easter! Sorry it has been so long in between blogs, i have been busy.
Not last week but the week before i had Tori and Bec come and visit, which was awesome. I showed them around my new home, which didnt really take that long as there isnt a whole lot to see in Suva. We then went out at night, and had a to good of time and ended our night with tori and bec trying kava. I then got treated to luxury as I stayed a few nights with them at the Shangri-La hotel, which is on its own island and is very beautiful. It was very nice to hang by the pool, go to the beach and then go back to a cool room where it wasnt to hot to sleep under the thick white doona.
We then had a busy weekend at the hostel, with birthday parties. Families outside the hostel often decide to celebrate their childs party at the hostel as a kind gesture to the hostel. We had 4 parties in one weekend, which meant the kids where high on sugar the whole time, but they had an awesome time and it they were really fun.
For Easter we went away to Ovalau which is an island off suva to stay in a village with one of the teachers from school. We left on the epic journey to get there after the easter service at school on thursday morning getting to the bus stop at 12 for a 12:30 leave. Of course fiji time the bus didnt come till 2, jemma and I had the biggest bag ever, which was a pain to get on the bus and then the bus was packed, but we were off. We then had a pit stop half way but when we got back to our seat a lady a few seats in front had decided to lay down on our seat as she wasnt feeling well and also decided to be sick on the floor of our seat which meant we had to have our feet in vomit for the rest of the bus ride. The boat was supposed to be waiting for us when we got there, but of course it wasnt, so we had another 1 and half hours wait and didnt board the boat till 6pm. The boat was quick and we were on ovalau by 7:30. We then caught a carry truck to the village, so we eventually arrived at 8:30. Because we travelled most of it in the dark and we had the big bag and we were on and off different things i felt like an illegal immigrant. We were welcomd with a kava ceremony, which went into the early hours of the morning. Friday morning we did the tour of the large village around 300 people, then walked acrossed to a near by island on low tide where we collected shells. We then went to stations of the cross in the next village whixh is entirely made up of catholics. That night we had kava with the boys from the next village, which was really cool as most of them had also been to world youth day in sydney and one was even confirmed by the pope at the final mass. Saturday we went into Levouka which is the close by town, and the old capital. I have never known so many people to be sooo proud of the OLD capital, that is the catch phrase for the town, Levouka, the old capital. We saw all the major sights, the 199 steps which we didnt climb because it was raining, the devils thumb (which is just a giant rock), where the british signed it over, the school ..... We then when to a baptism on Saturday, which was then followed by yet another kava session. Sunday morning we were off to church again, which was then followed my a fijian feast of fresh feast, chicken curry, casava, leaves in lolo, fried noodles ect. We were supposed to go swimming in the waterfall and then snorkelling but it was raining so that was a shame, but the night was yet again filled with a very big kava session. Monday we had a wedding which was a great experinece, they looed beautiful in their traditional dress. The entire village then shared in a giant lovo, where they cooked a whole pig under ground as well as chicken and casava. We started drinking kava at 2 in the afternoon and went right through till 1:30 am as it was our last night so everyone was inviting us in for bowls for our farewell ceremony. We then had to get up at 4am on tues morning to get ready to make the epic jouney back which was much less eventfull.
School is still going eally well, and it is going to be hard to leave at the end of term as i am attached to alot of the kids. Lately we have had a lot of rain in the afternoon so today at school all the kids just stripped off to the under wear and had a rain bath. They all just ran around and played in the rain all lunch, it was very funny to watch as kids slipped and slided , some health ad safety would just never allow at home.
That is all from me for now, miss you all, hope you are all well xxxxxxxx Felicia
ps i put up some photos finally!

Mum Sounds like you had a fantastic Easter. I'm bit worried you're getting a Kava addiction though!!! Was your Easter egg in 1 piece when you got to eat it? Keep having fun & we'll talk soon. Love Mum & Dave

Gordon Snowdon Hi Felicia. Great newsy letter. Plenty adventures, mostly pleasant. You're walking across to an island reminded me when we visited Vanuatu years ago, did likewise. My friend Terry spent much of his time that day snorkling and trying to catch multicoloured fish. By the way,F. Terry's daughter, a religious sister lives at Nazareth Prayer Centre, at Lami. For more adventure on some otherwise dull day you may like to look her up and say Gooddaye. Her phone: 67933611 06, Postal: PO Box 3340 Lami. She would be glad to see you. Have to be away now to do my Footie Tipping. You are still following Geelong's footie fortunes I hope! Bye for now.Keep well. Gordon.
