So last night Dave, Dan and Charlie got pissed up on Goon as a way to kind of relive their stress's over going off to work. I had to wait to speak to Fenella on the phone I about 9:30pm so didn't end up drinking, as I definitely wasn't having that phone all drunk.
The final plan for the moment is now the following -
• The boys are going down to Brisbane (2 hours away) to look for work, as rumours and fiends stories suggest there is a lot of work.
• I am being picked up Friday afternoon about 3pm by Fenella, and I am going to go and stay with them for about a week. They have contacts with a few farmers and stuff, so I will see if I can get hold of a job here. If not after a cheap and chilled week with them, I will meet the boys in Brisbane.
We got up today smash the free breakfast, then spent an hour or so discussing what our plans were.
The boys then had to book a Greyhound Bus and Accommodation in Brisbane, so by the time they had done that and I had played some pool etc it was nearly lunch.
We walked to the super market and bought; eggs, kebabs and bread. We came back and had a cheeky BBQ and laid around in the sun which was awesome.
Just about when we were all about to go and cruise around Mooloolaba on bikes, one of the guys I had been talking to the night before came and offered me a lift to one of the local surf breaks. Obviously I jumped straight on the offer, and we went to a local reef.
When we got there I was instantly the most nervous and worried I have ever been about a new break - it was a solid 5ft breaking only 10ft or so from a reef/slab. You had to wait for a set to come in wash you around on the slab, and jump in as it drains out to take you with it. If you get it wrong, like I very nearly did, you jump in and it drains out so quickly your over dry rock.
We were out for about an hour and a half, and in that time I got about 3 waves, one of which was probably on of the biggest of my life. The problem was locals were taking off over the reef with only 2ft of water on it, and i didn't want to drop in on anyone as I was sat wider, for fear of an ear full.
If was a hell of an experience anyway and I got out board intact with only a couple of cuts on my feet from the reef.
To get out you had to paddle/catch a wave down the length of the reef which was probably 150m long, then paddle round a break water and up a river to climb up the 'safe' side of the break waters boulder wall.
Having got out and watched from the breakwater you realise how gnarly the wave in, with people being washed up against the reef and smashed by barrels as they try to ride out into deeper water. It also feels super sharky as your right in the river mouth, the water is murky as hell and it was dusk.
I got back to the hostel about 6:30/7pm and met the boys, who were waiting for me to come back with stories, as when I left they couldn't be bothered to come.
As it was our last night together for a while we went out for a 'treat' - Dominos Pizza and a Mc D's strawberry milkshake hahaha.
We went back, watched a film and went to bed..
