We restocked in Esperance, then made the charge for the Nullarbor, with our fingers crossed that we were going to have a tailwind to help the fuel economy along.
Drove through Norseman and then set up camp the first night at the Balladonia Roadhouse. Morning came and brought Lee a nasty dose of gastro, so the day's driving was quickly shelved in favour of a motel room with air con, and most importantly, its own loo. An added bonus for Lea was that it also had a telly, so she happily watched the cricket, in between organising for delivery of medicine for Lee from Norseman (a rather complicated process involving a roadhouse manager, a chemist, a petrol station attendant, a truck driver and a cleaning lady, in that order).
Next day Lee was much improved, so we hit the road again and pushed on to Eucla, just shy of the WA/SA border. Lea got to drive Australia's longest stretch of straight road, the "90 Mile Straight", or 146.6km in metric terms. They weren't lying either, it's straight as an arrow.
Day 4 saw us cross the border (woohoo, our 5th state for the trip!) and check out some pretty awesome cliffs along the Great Australian Bight, and some completely treeless plains (the namesake of the Nullarbor) before finishing the crossing at Ceduna.
The adventure of the Nullarbor crossing didn't go quite as smoothly as we had hoped, nor did we have a tailwind, but it was certainly an experience to remember.
