After staying a night in Port Pirie, and catching up with Brandon, Ruth and Jacob after a chance sighting of them on the main street, we hit the Barossa!
First stop (before we even found a place to stay) was the Maggie Beer Farm Shop - Lea's idea of heaven. We had lunch and then watched a cooking demonstration on the kitchen set of "The Cook and the Chef". The only thing missing was Maggie Beer herself. Not to worry, we saw her after the demonstration. We also saw the parents and sister of Lea's old workmate Mick - small world!
Day 2 of our Barossa visit saw us noodling around Tanunda, visiting the Gungellan Hotel (of McLeod's Daughters fame - Lee was very disappointed that he didn't see Stevie) and sniffing around a lavender farm.
Day 3 and we headed out on an all-day winery tour. There were only 3 of us on the tour so the itinerary was a bit flexible, and we got to take our time. We had a great day visiting 5 wineries with lunch thrown in at a hotel in Tanunda. Afterwards we counted up all the tastings we had that day - 64. Needless to say, we slept well that night!
Packed up the next morning and headed through the Adelaide Hills to visit the Giant Rocking Horse, and then Hahndorf - a German town in the Adelaide Hills, where we had a yummy authentic German lunch.
Next stop, Adelaide to see Lea's friend Sue!
