Left Taupo early again-wish I had more time there! One night is not enough!
Drove through the National Park on our way to Blue Duck Lodge today. Got here around 1230pm. Long windy dirt roads. Same bus driver Spoon-came around a corner and clipped the side of a minivan-whoops! We had to stop for a bit so that he could exchange insurance information, etc....
Out in the bush here, but alas, there's Internet-go figure?! Rustic cabins for tonight. Having a group BBQ and a bonfire. Am able to have some much needed downtime to blog, read, relax here! Grateful for this since it's been go, go, go these past few days!!
Supposedly we can hear the kiwi bird calls tonight (they are nocturnal) and the blue duck is protected here. One person is actually going goat hunting tonight (they are considered a pest/predator of the kiwi and blue duck), so they are shot for meat and all parts are used-yuck! There are kill traps for mongrels, ferrets as they also endanger the kiwi and blue duck....
A lot of students work here for brief periods to help sustain the grounds, lodge.
Tomorrow we head to national park and the Tongariro possibly if conditions permit! Wellington the night after.
The gratitude continues-trying to continue to appreciate every minute of it all!!
