About 25 people went hiking up the Tongariro trail yesterday.. 3 swedish people decided to take a different route down and as such the tour company could not wait for them and police sent a search team out for them. Turns out that they were all ok, found them walking along the highway after an hour or so-they made a very ignorant decision to leave the group without telling anyone! Not very smart...
On the road at 9am this morning. Suzanne woke up early to have breakfast with me-she is staying in national park for another couple of nights:( I met her that very first day in Auckland when she was waiting for the bus and we have travelled together and shared this experience for the past 2 weeks! I will definitely miss her!
Some of her idiosyncrasies-she is 6 feet tall, so we nicknamed her Holland's next top model; whenever she walks into a room she sings 'what up party peoples'-so funny when she says it; she is always telling jokes; she can speak Dutch, english and german; she has travelled to south africa; asia; europe; and australia; she has an MBA already and has applied to start a second Masters degree! Great energy....
So I am now with the 2 Swiss girls and after tonight just 1 for 1 more night, then I am on my own...
Stopped in a town called Bulls-middle of nowhere really. All of the shops have 'bull' in the title (ie. consta-bull for police; fashiona-bull for the clothing store). Most small towns have a 'claim to fame' for the world's biggest or best-(biggest playground; best gummy boot throwing contest); or if they invented something, they have a huge statue of whatever that may be....
About 4-5 hours to Wellington-another long bus drive....
Moah bird-extinct bird (like a huge ostrich)-bones are supposedly at the museum in Wellington.
Arrived at around 4pm... Heading outgo explore on foot!
