July 8th Sitting in Apartment: Waiting for the Office to load...
Ok, reading the last post, looks like I was describing some new restaurants I've been to. The last of these is probably the most beneficial in the fact that it is close in proximity to Qasid. I have been to lunch at this place and have gotten Shewarma everyday this week. It's nice to have some meat for lunch so I'm not hungry or crave it at night for dinner. Therefore, we don't go to the Yemeni Place for meat for dinner quite as often, and this saves about 1.5 JD atleast, because Shewarma is cheaper. We had a quiz yesterday on the first two chapters we've gone through and the vocab and new phrases from both. This totals to about 200 new vocab words. I knew all of the terms going into the quiz, but the layout through me off, so I don't know if my grade will reflect what I know. Anyway, I know the terms so that is what counts in the end, not the rest. Last night we went to a cafe called "Doors" (like the band) and they even had Jim Morrison pictures in their menu haha. We saw the first half of the Spain Germany match, but it was way to smoky and I had homework left to do, so we left after the first half. I was rooting for Spain because they were the underdog and also they would play the Netherlands in the final (Which would be easier for the Netherlands than Germany). If the Netherlands win then one of our teachers will buy is Kenafa which is a dessert they have here, that I haven't tried yet, but looks fantastic. It is made of flour, cheese, and simple syrup (maybe honey) but it is really sweet. Today we had a quiz in grammar from the first two chapters and I think I did pretty well on it. Grammar is my weakest point so I was surprised by this. I came back after class and took an hour and a half nap, woke up at 5:30 and we went and ate at the Yemeni Place. It is nice taking naps because you are usually up late studying and doing homework, so it is the only wa y to get by. Some things that happened this week are: A guy in my class tried a lamb brain sandwich today (which was served cold on a hogey roll with tomatoe...) he described it as tasting kind of like eggplant with the same consistency. However, he said it smelled like Fermaldihide and he is a biology major so I'll take his word for it, haha.
-The Visa plan for Syria fell through (there was a guy in my class that has a friend of a friend working in DC that would have cleared it, but only 3 of them are going). Syria is not out of the picture totally due to the fact that some hotels in Damascus offer VISA assistance if you stay in their hotel.
-The Saudi Arabian VISA process is going very well! A friend of mine from Alabama (Ahmed AlHaddad) was able to get his father's company to sponsor us. You have to know that Saudi Arabia is the hardest country to get into in the world. The only way is through a company sponsoring you and sending a formal invitation, or if you're muslim going on a pilgrimage. We will probably fly into Bahrain and take the bridge into Dammam, Saudi Arabia for a weekend once the invitation and VISA is cleared :) I think that's about it for now, The Office is mostly loaded now. Tonight Cameron and I are going to watch Toy Story 3, make popcorn, and smoke Hookah.
