June 24 Thursday sitting in the classroom
I just bought Falafel Aadee (normal) and a Mountain Dew and am using this lunch break to catch up on some writing. Yesterday I woke up to find that Qasid e-mailed me and I made it into Level 3!! This is quite an achievement considering that I haven't had any real book-work in a classroom setting ever. We're going through the Al-Kitaab series of textbooks and I'm in Book 2 out of 3. This book is going to be reallly good because everything is in Arabic (instructions, directions, etc) and it will include a lot of grammar that I have not covered or attempted on my own. The first day of class went really well, it starts at 10 am and we get out at 3pm, but it is 4 hours long so we get a break for lunch from 12-1:00, which is nice because it's not like a 4 hour long stretch of classes and allows things to sink in. We were assigned alot of homework but I managed to finish it by 2:00 am (granted I took a 30 minute nap when I got home from class, grabbed some food with Cameron (really good Schwarma) and tried to Skype Laura which didn't work out so well). I also was able to talk to Grandaddy, Hussain, and Megan some as well. Anyway with all of that included, I finished at 2:00, woke up at 9:00 this morning and was out the door by 9:30. I caught a bus and the guy took me the wrong way so I was dropped off and had to run across 6 lanes of heavy traffic to catch a bus going the other way. I should have asked for my money back because he told me he was going to Duwar Madeena. Anyway, I was able to catch a bus back and ended up to class 30 minutes late! I was pretty mad, but figure those things happen... I explained to the teacher why I was late and she said it was no problem. Hopefully I can Skype Laura tonight and have a good long conversation. Tomorrow starts the weekend here and I think Cameron, Adam, and I are going to the Madeena (the main part of the city) to look around and we might go to the Saudi Embassy to see if we can work out getting a VISA. I'll keep everyone posted and once I get a good converter I will load pictures from Amman and a video tour of the apartment. On several side notes: There was a wedding last night at the hotel next to us and it sounded like alot of fun (the food looked amazing). Secondly, one of our residential kitties, Beezelbub, will now let you get close enough to snatch him up and pet him once he's in your lap he'll start purring. I think I'm going to buy some milk for both of them so they will keep coming by. Apparently the lifespan of a feral cat is like 2 years so I don't feel too bad about helping out for a couple of months. Oh! last thing... I have only spent 18 JD for the first week I'm here, haha. That's like 25 bucks for food, drink, and transportation to and from school!!! Peace.
