Hi
After we'd vistied Milford Sounds we left Te Anau and headed north to Cromwell where we spent the night before heading up to Mount Cook.
The next morning bright and early we began the drive to Mount Cook which was brilliant as we had such good weather. The scenery was great and changed all the way along the journey so we couldn't get bored of the drive. I don't think you ever could get bored of the scenery in New Zealand!!
We arrived at Lake Pukaki in Twizel where the lookout for Mount Cook is situated. The view was fantastic and we could even see the peak of the mountain. We spent a couple of hours at the lake having some lunch and as you can see, the view was gorgeous!!
We then headed back down the highway to Queenstown where we stopped at varous places along the way - Salmon Farm, Fruityard and the bungy bridge. For those of you who we text to say we were going to do a bungy jump - i apologise, we'd had one too many glasses of wine and thought it would be a great idea, until we woke up in the morning and realised what a stupied idea it would be!!
Anyway, once at Queenstown, we booked ourselves onto a triple combo trip which we were to do the next day - this included The 360 degree Shotover Jet, Helicopter Ride and White Water Rafting. The first part of the combo - The Shotover jet was exhilarating to say the least. The jet is basically a speedboat the does 360 degree turns in the water and was great. We then went on a helicopter ride across the mountains which was very scary, we didn't expect it to be such a white knuckle ride but as it was a thrill seekers package i guess we should have realised!! The last activity was white-water rafting which was great fun and i'm pleased to say that neither Andy or I fell in. The scale of the rapids was 3-4 which is quite high for first timers like us!! Unfortunately we don't have any pictures of the water activities as we didn't want to risk ruining our camera.
After our fun packed day we took a short drive north to Wanaka where we spent the night ready for the next part of our trip, which we will fill you in on later....
Take care
Lots of Love Claire & Andy xxxxxxx
