Hi
Its all coming to an end and its very sad. We've just spent our last few days in New Zealand and have visited Auckland - New Zealands capital city.
We were very fortunate to be invited to stay with Colleen & Errol, a couple we met whilst in Dunedin. They had given us lots of suggestions and advice on places of interest and we've kept in touch with them. We arrived at their house on the suburbs of Auckland on Thursday afternoon and have been staying with them since. Its so nice to be staying in a comfortable bed and in a home!!
On arrival in Auckland we visited Devonport which is in the northern part of the city, and drove up to a couple of extinct volcanoes, of which Auckland has over 40. There we enjoyed views of Auckland and its harbour.
The following day, Colleen took us on a tour of the City, which was much appreciated and meant that we saw the best bits in one day!! We vistied the Harbour, Parks, Beaches and parts of the City.
On Saturday we ventured into the City ourselves to do the sightseeing thing!! We took a cruise around the harbour and then went up to Auckland Sky Tower, which is the highest in the Southern Hemisphere. We watched some crazy people jumping off the top of the tower in a controlled jump, even though controlled, it still look scary!
During the rest of the day we looked around the city and then went for a lovely meal at The Viaduct Harbour.
On Sunday afternoon (today) we returned our Spaceship to the City, which was very sad. We felt rather lost without our little Eros (car) and so to console ourselves we took a visit to Minus 5 - Aucklands Vodka Ice Bar! Once we'd put on our Eskimo gear we entered the Ice Bar and bought a couple of cocktails from the ice bar, which we drank from ice glasses whilst sitting on ice sofas, surrounded by ice sculptures!! Yes, its was very cold!! We could only last in there for about half an hour as we had shorts on!
Tonight Colleen and Errol and laying on a BBQ for us and then taking us to the finale of the Chinese New Year Celebrations in the city - should be good!
Tomorrow we'll be leaving New Zealand and heading to Fiji for a holiday, where we intend to relax on a deserted island for a few days! Its been absolutely fantastic visiting New Zealand and has been more beautiful than we had imagined.
After our holiday to Fiji (!!) we'll be taking a nightmare 26 hour flight home - can't wait!! We can't wait to come home and see everyone.
See you soon.
Love Claire & Andy xxxx
