Hi
After o ur action packed day in Queenstown we took a leisurely drive nirth to Wannaka where we spent the night.
The next morning, after having breakfast next to Lake Wannaka, we continued north to Fox Glacier and Franz Josef. En-route to "Glacier Country" we stopped for a couple of walks and then arrive at the town of Fox Glacier. After looking around the town, we had our first glacier experience where we went for a walk up to the base of Fox Glacier which was pretty cool, although we knew we had better things to come!
We spent the night in to the town and then the next mornfinf we took a walk around Lake Matheson and got views of Mount Cook from the other side to which we saw it before. The views weren't as good as before as the clouds came over but it was still good to see.
After our walk we took a short drive to Franz Josef where we booked a Heli-Hike to Franz Josef Glacier for the next day. This experience was to be one of the best of our trip so far.
The next morning we set off on our Heli-Hike. After booting up and preparing oursevles with the right equipment, we flew up to the niddle of the glacier by helicopter - the veiews were out of this world! The helicopter then did a snow landing and once off of the helicoppter we put our Ice Talonz on (snow shoes) and started to make our way up the glacier for a 2 hour hike amongst ice caves, pinnacles and seracs. As we hiked up the glacier the guide cut our steps into the ice for us so woul wouldn't slip, luckily neither of us did, although some did!!
We then returned back to base by helicopter. It was the most amazing experience and a great Valentines Day present to eachother!
Hope you are all well. Only three and a half weeks and we'll be home - how scary!!!
Lots of love
