After literally a month and a half of asking, waiting, nagging and hoping, I've finally moved into my new studio! I originally asked the directrice at Vert Bois in April if I could move and she said she'd ask Boutonnet and Colombiere and get back to me. This didn't happpen. So after about 3 weeks I went to see her, but I was told I had to leave a note. Nothing. I went back a week later and she told me that she'd sent them an email but they'd never replied, so I should ask them myself! I then went to Boutonnet where I was told absolutely no way could I move to either place. Feeling pretty depressed I then went to Colombiere where they said 'ok, write down what sort of room you want and we'll call you'. And they did the next day! It still took another 2 weeks after that until I could move in but I'm finally here. My room and bathroom is a bit smaller but I've got an actual kitchen; no more having to eat before 22h or dragging a bag of cooking utensils downstairs!
Obviously the Euro's are on at the moment and we've been watching the England games in town, either in the Comédie or at Fitzpatrick's (I said I'd never go there but football is a worthy cause). As the pub was spilt in half for the final group matches it was very satisfying to walk through the disappointed French fans at the end (especially the man with the STUPID chicken hat), and to read the headlines the next day 'Qualifié mais humilié'. From our original group of friends it's only the English and the Italians that are left so we're looking forward to Sunday's match, though I'm not sure if we'll leave it with our friendship in tact.
As the 21st is the 'first day of summer', Montpellier had set up a Fete de la Musique to mark the occasion. It started in the afternoon and carried on all through the night, with just about every type of music covered. The whole town was awash with bands and DJs, from the Comédie to small side roads, they were everywhere. There were so many people and it was a really fun atmosphere; if you got bored of one group you just walked 50m down the road and tried out the next one.
