Today was another day where Biserka had to trim the vines while Ivan & Marin sprayed.
I on the other hand had lunch duty, soup, crumbed chicken, spuds & salads. All had to be ready for 1:00 pm. No problems - all done without any issues. Biserka & Milica (her helper) were late - but that's OK as here the meals are never served red hot, only warm.
After lunch the workers went back to their tasks & we went to visit dad's sister Barica & her son & family - they live together. The drive to their place is pretty with the roads winding up and down hills & through green valleys.
Visiting means eating so when we arrived a late lunch was waiting for us; soup, chicken schnitzels, salads, marrow pita done in homemade filo pastry & a tasty slice for dessert as well as good Turkish style coffee.
I love visiting Barica - she has chickens both bantams with feathered feet & the brown egg layers, turkeys, pigs & a pet rabbit as well as a well stocked veggie patch.
All this is on a block of land about twice the size of a standard house block back home. Their houses don't take up too much room as they are always 3 to 4 storey with a small footprint on the land.
Late in afternoon we heard car horns that got progressively louder & stepped outdoors to see the wedding procession towards a neighbour's house.
Weddings here are a major event. They start with lunch in 2 locations - the bride's home & the groom's home. After lunch the groom his family & his guests travel by car to the bride's home where her family & guests wait for their arrival. When the groom arrives his best man has the duty of calling upon the bride's father to present his daughter. This is done via bargaining & the 'first bride' presented is a man dressed in drag as a bride. When the true bride is presented the guests gather, eat more food, drink & the band (part of the Groom's entourage) play music & the dancing starts. The church service usually starts at about 7:00pm & then the fun begins at the reception. A full 4 course meal is served along with coffee & wedding cake & at about 4:00am in the morning more food is served to prevent the guests from alcoholic poisoning & 'starvation'. The 'party' is on until dawn. The next evening all guests are invited to continue the celebration back at the groom's family home. Believe it or not, they all go to work on Monday.
