Today the temperature rose to 37°C.
As a result the pool was cleaned & put back into use. The kids cooled off while we headed to Mladen's (cousin) place for lunch.
Mladen's wife is Snježana and his children are Karlo, Martina & Paola.
Karlo & Martina are both studying at university in Zagreb but always come home for vacations.
Today they were all at lunch and we ate indoors enjoying the cool of the air conditioner.
I said previously the Mladen is building a winery in Radoš and his wine both whites & red are excellent. So with lunch we enjoyed wines that were smooth and of much better quality than most of the others we have tasted to date.
Lunch was very tasty with a light vegetable soup for starters followed by beef and vegetables with salads and some cold roast pork. Dessert was very interesting - a crepe cake layered with chocolate & lightly baked in the oven, then sprinkled with grated chocolate & served with ice-cream.
We had lots of time to relax and enjoy each other's company & John was able to converse in English with Karlo & Martina.
After lunch Mladen & I went to visit his mother (Ljubica) in the aged care facility in Ilok. She has dementure & is wheelchair bound. She doesn't even recognise Mladen. He took some dessert and fed it to her before we took her for a walk around the gardens. He visits her every day & takes food with him for her to enjoy something that is home cooked.
Dragan, Cvita's son was particularly cheesed off today as a 3D TV he planned to purchase was sold out on the first day of its special price. As a result, he, his wife Sandra, John & I headed off to Osijek in the evening in search of another TV.
Osijek is Croatia's 4th largest city with a population of almost 110,000 and is located at the junction of the Drava & Danube Rivers. It suffered heavy bombardment during the 1990's war of independence. It was attacked after Vukovar & when we went into the town centre back in 2013 there was still buildings that had not been repaired. Today it is known as the largest cultural centre in Croatia. It has a university that caters for about 20,000 students who the locals say will decide what they will do with the rest of their lives after they have had a few more drinks.
We did not go into the centre of this city, instead we went into the large shopping complexes in search of a TV. Sandra and I split off from the boys and did our own shopping & finished off with a coffee. The boys did manage to find a TV and payment plan so that Dragan didn't have to travel back & forth from Ilok to Osijek. He was one happy man.
We arrived home quite late, had a bite to eat & headed off to rest for the night.
