We drove out of Slovenia today at about 9:30am.
We needed Kuna as we have entered Croatia. So we stopped at Bule in Istria, a lovely old town on a hill. The streets here are narrow & the houses are stuccoed with concrete & generally not painted. It's funny every transaction in the shops is in Kuna (5 to every SAU), however, when you organise accommodation the prices are in Euro.
Where possible we avoided the Autoput & stuck to the towns along the sea - much more picturesque.
Our next stop was Rovinj, a large fishing town built on the water's edge. Here we parked and walked through the narrow lanes (all paved with marble blocks). The lanes mostly led up to the Church situated at the highest point in town overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Many of the town's arts & crafts & clothing stores lined these lanes. As we made our way down to the wharf area, we found a couple of kitsch short lanes between buildings that led down into the sea. At one point we had to give way to a small van that came up the lane & then returned back down - how & why, we don't know.
We dropped into a bakery where John was checking out the burek & made his selection after which I decided to clarify some details about some sweets in Croatian & totally shocked the lady serving us as she assumed I only spoke English. It was quite funny & she made several apologies about her reaction.
So far Rovnij is our favourite town in Istria.
We continued onto Pula and found an apartment in a little town, Laborika only 5 mniutes away.
