Woke up very early & went to Piran this morning. We are not allowed to take cars into Piran; instead there is a multi-story parking lot at the top of the hill. The locals can park at the bottom of the hill. As it was early & the sun hadn't started to bake everything, we walked down the hill to take in the sights & pick a suitable swimming spot.
The water's edge at Piran has massive limestone boulders along a large concrete edge with steps that lead into the water.
The town square like many others so far boasted stone council buildings with lovely carvings and columns.
This town has 2 churches that proudly overlook the water. They are most likely built in the 17th or 18th century. The first also serves as a lighthouse. The second one sits about 80m up on a hill with a rock wall at its base that is lapped by the seawater.
We had a warm swim (yet again) in the Adriatic ocean & unfortunately couldn't shower off the saltwater as the showers were all disconnected. Apparently the council is in the process of making these available at a charge (50 euro cents).
John cracked it & went into the Information Centre to complain about the showers not working. The locals are dark on the council & the attendant asked if John would write a letter of complaint which he did. AS a result John will most likely be black band & not allowed into Slovenia in the future.
Now back at 'home' resting & trying not to overheat.
Heading off to Izola for a swim after dinner when the sun doesn't burn so hot & the showers work.

Angela Callea Hi Chris and John, I have enjoyed your all descriptions but am amazed at your insight into Slovenia as I had no previous knowledge. The caves and scenery sound and look spectacular! I can feel the warm salt baths and the stickiness of the heat, sweat etc. I need to hear lots more about the food etc once you return! Travel safely ! Ange
