Today is the 10th anniversary of my cousin Danka's death. She suffered from cancer of the uterus and died far too young. She passed away at 46 years of age. Two of my cousin's Mato & Cvita who are also two of Danka's 6 siblings and Ljubica (Mato's wife) & John & I went to visit Danka's grave. These types of visits bring us back to reality & remind us that we too will perish one day - hopefully not too soon.

After a short walk down the hill from the cemetery to a beautifully fresh cold spring we head off to Bapska where Danka lived with her family to visit her husband (Mirko), their daughter (Ivana) & his partner (Verica). Here we had a bite to eat & some drinks & John and I got to know them a lot better than last time (2 years ago) when we visited. We knew that Mirko & Danka had Igor an older child who was an actor & today found out that he had won a 'golden globe' type of award for his leading role in a Croatian film. So I have a famous talented person in the family. Also Ivana who is an absolute darling has a disability & is unable to work, but, travels around on her tricycle with Verica delivering their fresh eggs to locals in the neighbourhood. Verica has also suffered a loss, her husband was killed in the 1990s war against Serbia & she is an absolute darling in the way she cares and treats Ivana with respect & dignity. The more I find out about my mum's family, the more I like them & respect the way they manage with little income but love & care for each other dearly.
