I noticed I have put on a bit of weight since we have been in New Zealand and eating all the hot yummy food, too many cheesy pasta bakes and maybe steak night Tuesday wasn't such a good idea lol. So we both decided we would take advantage of the tennis court on site and make an effort to do some exercise from now on. Chris went to reception and got the rackets and put them on the table. A couple of hours later they were still there lol. We didn't end up playing but carried on sorting through our stuff for Fiji. We had too much stuff in our bags, we needed to find a post office and send some of it back home! So after lunch we drove into town to find one. It took us a while and just like in Auckland, it wasn't easy finding somewhere to park our big camper van! Finally we found a road around the corner and parked up. We were on a very steep slant, it almost felt like the camper van would tip over!
After buying a box from the post office we got back in the camper van and drove to AH Reed Memorial Kauri Park about twenty minutes away. The forest is a significant remnant of the original kauri forests that were once extensive throughout the Northland. When we got there we started walking down the wrong pathway. There were farms and fields around us. In the distance I could see what looked like a cow shagging a horse! As soon as I told Chris they stopped! Chris didn't believe it was a cow until we got a bit closer. It was so funny, the cow looked completely guilty as he watched us watching him. He stood in the field staring at us until we were completely out of site again, like he had been caught out! If only I had the camera ready.
When we got back to the car park again there was a little black dog all on his own. He looked really scared and nervous but came up to us straight away. We thought he might have been lost so stayed with him for a moment. Suddenly the dog decided to take off and ran towards the farms. I hoped he lived down there and his owner wasn't looking for him in the forest!
We went the correct way after that, we walked for forty five minutes under the trees. We read the trees were massive in the forest but they weren't that big, still it was a nice walk. We sat down on a bench when suddenly a labrador appeared in the bushes and started barking at us, he looked pretty mean! Two joggers came by and thought the dog was trying to let us know something was wrong. They started walking towards the dog and he started to climb further up into the bushes. We all wondered if his owner was nearby and in trouble so me and Chris started to follow as well. We climbed up the really steep hill thick with trees and bushes covered in spider webs! I didn't like it at all, one slip and it would have been us that were in trouble! The two joggers reached the top of the hill first and then started laughing. There was a bloody house at the top! Stupid dog! He was just warning us away from his home!
We climbed back down the hill and carried on up to the 23.8m waterfall. It was nice to see and good to get out and do something today. I still wanted to play tennis when we got back but it was too late and dark by then. So we had a healthy dinner, salmon with salad and Chris had soup with bread before watching a DVD and finally going to bed.
