We got up extra early this morning so we could get to the Apple office as soon as it opened. First we had to get rid of our dirty waste and refill with fresh water so we drove around to the dump station only to find that the park had locked it up over night! It seemed like a strange thing to do and was annoying for us because it meant we wasted time driving around town looking for a public one. Luckily there was one not too far away.
Once we were sorted we drove to the Apple office and saw the same friendly lady that helped us yesterday. She let us set up on one of her computers so we could transfer photos and videos. We managed to transfer all our photos across but even after three long hours we still couldn't transfer our bloody sky diving videos! We kinda wish we had a laptop instead of the iPad now, the iPad has too many restrictions! Anyway there wasn't anyway thing else we could do so we thanked the lady and left.
Our next destination was Rotorua to visit Valley Springs Farm. It was great to see all the farm animals there but the main attraction and reason we went was for the baby lion cubs! That's right, the farm had lions and two cubs! On our way in we bought some food for the farm animals later then went straight to the lion cub enclosure to que up. Most zoos would usually charge tourists extra to stroke a cub but it was free at the farm. It felt funny queing up with all the young kids with their parents, but we didn't care. When it was our turn to see them they were sleeping but we still got to stroke them. We were surprised at how rough their fur was, they looked so soft! We really wanted to see them awake so we planned to come back again later once we had been around the farm.
By now it was lunch time so we went back to our camper van and cooked honey and mustard chicken with rice before going back in. When we went back in it was feeding time for the adult lions. It was really busy and the children were really excited. We watched as a lion was pacing up and down the fence, she had her eyes fixed on one particular boy running around like she wanted to eat him! She looked wild and scary! Another lion got too close and touched the electric fence with her nose, she got a shock from it which made her growl and moan, Chris was laughing.
After the feeding we went into the bird atrium. A member of staff was feeding the possums and let us hold one. It was so soft and cuddly and a lot bigger than we imagined! Chris really wanted to hold the other possum just because it was ginger so he could take the piss out of his mate Joel lol but it wasn't tame enough. Then the guy gave us some peanuts to feed to the large Kea's, New Zealand's largest parrot. One of them got confused and thought my finger was food, it took a hard long bite and drew blood trying to eat it!
We left the atrium and carried on walking through the farm. We fed the ducks and trout then we tried to feed the deers but they wouldn't come close enough. My favourite animals were a pair of goats, they looked so funny and stupid and were really friendly. Next we fed two ponies, another goat and a white lama which almost spat at us, a donkey and a really fat sheep. Then we fed a friendlier black lama, it's fur was so soft to touch!
The animals were all friendly and we stayed there stroking them for ages. We really loved it there and didn't want to leave, Chris said he could have worked there! I'm sure we enjoyed the farm more than kids with their parents! lol.
At 4pm Chris wanted to go back and stroke the lion cubs again. This time the cubs were awake, they were really playful and the staff had to keep them on leashes in case they got a bit too excited. One of them almost swiped at a young baby! It was the perants fault though, they were stupidly holding their baby too close! They were so cute, Chris said he wanted to take one home! I wanted to take both of them!
It was a really nice day and made a change to actually do something other than watch tv and eat which we have done lately. We left the park as it was starting to get dark and drove back into town and parked up in the Rotorua Thermal Holiday Park. We especially wanted to stay there because they had two large hot spa pools! We couldn't wait so we used them straight after dinner. The hottest pool was already being used by four people so we used the one next door which was still 40 degrees but empty. It felt so good as we slipped into the hot water from the freezing cold air. For half an hour it was just me and Chris enjoying the silence while looking up at the stars in the night sky. It was the perfect way to end the day.
