Day 13 - Handover ceremony, birthday parties and BBQ
All attended site for the formal handover ceremony. Furniture and rugs installed, painting done, and post-PC porch completed.
Heather Reynolds, founder of GGA, came to say a few words to ward off bad spirits etc. (in the traditional Zulu way). The client, Ze Lucille, was clearly very happy with her new home. It was great for the team to see. She especially liked the rugs and beanbag!
After formally handing over the padlock to the client, the team returned to the Rondawel for some brief relaxation before being treated to a brilliant concert by the "Young Zulu Warriors" from GGA. Great soulful singing, and excellent traditional warrior outfits and dancing. This was followed by birthday party for three of the children, and a BBQ (a.k.a. "braai" in South Africa). The Brookfield team bought the meat for all. Apparently it had been some months since the previous such meat-fest. Alas, the planned bonfire was cancelled by a lightning storm.
The team is feeling very fulfilled with the mission. It is nice to come to know the person/people who benefit directly from such charitable efforts. Team now preparing mentally and physically (packing) for the return to the UK.
Thanks to Brookfield for creating this opportunity for the team to help people in such great need.
