Day 5 - Don't tread on the mamba (day 4 on site)
The project topped out today. In short, concrete slab plus 12 levels of blocks; 4 windows and 2 doorways with the roof to come when the materials arrive. Highlight of the day was encountering a deadly mamba snake on site! In the interests of maintaining the quick progress of the build we opted to slay the creature before it ruined our programme and also threatened the safety of the local kids.
Local builders (come hunters) trapped and killed the beast with a stick. There was talk of having it for lunch with some of our popular cheese and chutney sandwiches, but in the end a Zulu woman took it home to batch some bootleg anti-venom. Back to the Rondawel to find the power out. A bolt of lightening struck the transformer at GGA.
We decided to hit the town for a topping out celebration. Dinner at seafood restaurant in Durban, accompanied by some Tequila and Jagermeister. The place was a ghost town - someone must have told the locals we were in town...
