Day 2- Construction of concrete slab
An early rise at 7am (a first time for some of the office members in the GGA team); then hastily off to site clinging on for dear life to the rear of a pickup truck (don't tell Jim Senior). On site we were greeted by a half prepped but fully motivated local GGA building team.
Phenomenal team progress - overcoming (with a 14lb sledgehammer) an enormous boulder engrained in the tapestry of the land (inside the building area). Compacting and levelling the land as well as loading out blockwork was a main priority for the team members and ran very smoothly. Subsequently the plastic membrane and mesh reinforcement were placed.
After a refreshing morning break the team embarked upon the mixing on site of the concrete in the mixer and then placement. All activities were rotated throughout the team and the pour was concluded by midday. No issues- except from a bold chicken strutting across the newly placed and finely finished concrete surface.
No access to site for the afternoon as concrete cures and all preparation complete for the day ahead.
At GGA HQ we were offered an opportunity to visit Tala Game Reserve, close to Cato Ridge, which was unanimously agreed upon. The beach can wait for another day!
An assortment of wildlife experienced in the mini-safari: impala, hippos, warthogs, ostrich, blue cranes (not Brookfield blue), wildebeest, some black and white horses, and the much anticipated white rhinos! Bloody awesome day had by all!
Back in the rondawel for dinner and Nick's iPhone containing 80s hair metal packed ballads (and Macy Gray) in addition to anecdotes for a bygone era (Sydney 1980-1989) were the focal point of the evening. Plus Malcolm letting some steam off pumping up a few balls... Early start tomorrow...
