Me and Tina were early risers today, we decided to indulge on the Groovy Grape winetasting tour in the Barossa Valley! got the bus at 8am....argh!
our day was very fun....but im telling you, someone on that bus was jinxed, the day was like one of the Final Destination films, where disaster follows one person!!
Disaster No 1: we run over something and get ourselves a flat tyre on the way to the first winery, which sets us back about 30 minutes, as at first the jack wouldnt work! our trusty driver and guide JR did a very good job with all 15 of us stood around watching!!
Did You Know... sometimes when you drink Jacob's Creek wine, the grapes arnt actually from their vineyards? as they have such a massive output, they buy in some grapes from other parts of the barossa!! golly gosh!
Disaster No 2: Jacob's Creek winery is closed due to a sewage flood :-( so we had to grin and bear it and move on! Doh!
we then went to Richmond Grove winery, where we had a quick tour and explanation of the process and a peek into the wine stash, then onto the tasting! we tried two reds and two whites and a port, which was really nice!! then we went to Vinecrest winery, where we did the same sort of thing, but this time they gave us a list and asked us to choose, me and Tina basically worked our way through it.....well it would be rude not to!
we stopped for about 20 minutes at the World Largest Rocking Horse, me and tina climbed right to the top! had to climb up ladders in tunnels, kept feeling spiderwebs on my face.....eeeeeeew!! got a certificate and everything yay!! looked into the "wildlife park" which was lots of peacocks, ducks, and cockatoos.
Feeling slightly pished we moved onto Bethany winery, where again, we chose what we wanted to try from a list - excellent!! After that we stopped in Tanunda for lunch at a nice little pub, i had the bbq plate, which had sausage, lamb chop (mmmmm!) and kangaroo!!
Disaster No 3: our driver reversed into a tree. oops!
went to our final winery of the day, Rockford. it was very nice and we again worked our way steadily (or not so steadily) throught their wine list! we drove back via Jacobs Creek and they let us inside for a couple of minutes to give us each a complimentary mini bottle of wine to say sorry! how nice!! we all played tourists and had pictures in front of the Jacobs Creek sign thats actually on the creek.
Disaster No 4: On driving back, a trailer flew off the back of a car going past us, JR had to slam on the brakes and swerve onto the verge to avoid it!! scary!
Our last stop was at the Whispering Wall, its a dam 140m across and 36m high. theres two lowered platforms at either end and if you stand on one and whisper, or talk at normal volume, the people at the other end can hear you! its so bizarre!!
Did You Know: Vegimite (the ozzy marmite) was originally called Pawill. this was designed as a pun on the english marmite: if Marmite, then Pawill. For those who dont get it....If Ma might, then Pa will. hehe!! it flopped so they changed it to vegemite, which seems to work pretty well!
We got back around 5:30, and decided that we'd go out with the other guys for a night out. Quite a few people went, around 15, and we all went to a club called Church, where i was 90's night! music was spice girls, Five, backstreet boys, etc.....so much fun! all far too drunk and managed to get back at around 3am!
