The first half of the day was as "usual": Belinda working until 1:00 pm, Melina and me (Bernd) picking her up. Then we had our first appointment for visiting a house.
"Swansea" was located almost on the beach in Hastings, but it was not really suitable to live there all the time. It was a nice beach house, with some serious disadvantages: the kitchen was lowered to fit persons in wheelchairs...Astrid would just scream and run away! And it had no terrace or something comparable. So we told the - really nice - lady that we won't take the house. She wasn't mad about us and offered us another one which we found after some minutes driving into the countryside:
A really beautiful, big house with plenty of area around it and all very well maintained. We thought "That is it!" ... the only little problem was the price: she asked 2500.- BD$ ( ca. 900 Euro) per month and wouldn't go down a cent. After taking many pictures and while driving we discussed how we could afford this beautiful home... Afterwards we drove to St. Joseph to visit another property which we marked in the newspaper.
The neighbourhood and the surroundings were beautiful with a nice view to the west coast. But the house itself was as basic as it could be...a typical Bajan chattel house, made entirely from wood and standing on some piles of stone. The price of 700.- BD$ (ca. 250 Euro) made it quite attractive first, but after a while watching it and thinking about it, we decided that it would be far too small for us (no visitors possible!!), jumped into the Suzuki and headed to see the last house for this day at 6 pm, when the owner would be there.
The newspaper said, the house would be near "Walkers Valley", which we dind't find on the map - we just found "Walkers View" and because we arrived at 5 pm, so we just strolled around and looked at our supposed new neighborhood (that's where we found the Audi - I was very much looking forward to live there, haha!).
Suddenly we saw a sign "FOR RENT" with a phone number on a house and presumed, that this could be the one we would have a look at. It was quite big but obviously needed some work. The phone number on the sign didn't match with the one in the newspaper, so maybe it wasn't the right address...
We called the guy after 6 pm and were led to a completely different place. What we saw then, wasn't exactly what we wanted to live in...you can see on the photos why. And we were tired, too ;-)) (That's also the reason, why you got nothing new to read yesterday).
To complete the day, we decided to call the number on the sign to see if the price would be reasonable - the work for brining the house into a good looking condition wouldn't be a problem for me. Said Belinda, my lovely wife. ;-)
The woman at the other end of the line said a sum that was far too high over what we expected. After asking how much we would like to spend, she told us that she had another property for 2000.- BD$ per month (ca. 710 Euro), which we would be able to visit tomorrow...
With THE house kept at the back of our minds, we drove home and didn't expect a better one to come. But watch out what came at the next day....!
