Just had our 3rd night at Honeyman state park. Our favourite stop so far. Got up thurs morning and (eventually) headed to the dune buggies
No luck. Kids can't go with the "sandrails" which are the crazy 4 or 6 sweaters that FLY around the dunes. Too little. And the big slow dune buggies only go if there's 6-10 adults. Ok so not today. We head to sea lion caves again. I remember the caves as a kid... Mom & dad took us to the gift shop but wouldn't pay admission to go down to the caves. Ha! We went down this time. Sea lions not in the cave this time of year, they're on the rocks outside so you can only see them 300 ft away from the lookout. Hm. Cave was cool though, 200 feet down in the elevator. Can't explore it, you can only watch from a small viewing area. Hm. Livvy loved it tough. Skeletons of sea lions, watching the waves crashing in the cave.
Back to the campsite for a late Jesse nap and when he woke we decided o check out the trail to the dunes. SO glad we did. What a place. We hiked up & down huge sand hills. Tucker was in heaven. Jesse sat & played. Olivia climbed the highest dune with dad and rolled or jumped down the hill. We thought this would be a quick 15 min trip to see sand, but we had a blast and played for an hour. So cool. We could see atvs and dune buggies flying around in the distance too. The sand went on forever. Check out the pics!
Friday we were determined to ride dune buggies. Found somewhere close with big buggy for kids and off we went. Was an old clunky open bus type thing... Loser cruiser!! But Jesse was mesmerized and livvy loved when we went up & Down the big sand hills. Fun trip.
Back in the car, headed for lunc, and Jesse was asleep in 5 min. Stroller and he slept for almost 2 hours thru lunch and a walk around Old Town Florence. Cute street along the river with lots of restaurants & shops.
Late lunch so we came back to campsite and started campfire. Livvy roasted hotdogs for dinner! And a marshmallow too. Classic.
This campsite is awesome. Our site backs onto a huge play area with a giant sandbox. Wonder where they get the sand from ??!!!!! Ha. Jesse rides his bikes, plays with his cars. Livvy loves the sandbox, builds castles & stairs.
Today not sure of our plan yet. Either we stick with original plan and we'd head to the Redwood Forest today and then Shelter Cove. Or we skip it all and head to palm springs where Gidius & Hannelie are for the next 2 weeks. We'll let ya know what we decide!!
