In Rotorua we met up with Claire whom we originally met in Fiji it was great to see her again. We also managed to get a three bed dorm at the hostel which was much nicer and cleaner than 8 beds! We visited the Polynesian Spa and treated ourselves to the $35 option, this meant the rock pools overlooked Lake Rotoura and we had free towels, soap, shampoo and use of a hairdryer - bliss! The four pools were 36, 38, 40 and 42 degrees. It was lovly and relexing.
We went to a Maori evening. There was a traditional dance at the start which was very intimidating to watch and it was meant to be. There was then more dancing and singing which was really good and we also got the chance to see how the Maoris would have lived etc. One of the Maori said a very important statement "please feel free to ask questions and look around for your education rather than your entertainment". When visiting the village we had to stick by some important rules - no moving around when they were dancing, no laughing, no talking and no sticking out tonges. At the end of the evening we all had a buffet, the food was really nice. We certainly eat well that night and the food was great, the leaders even said "if you are a backpacker you can come up for thirds and fourths!". The coach ride back from the village was the funniest us three had expeiriences. We had all been told on the journey to the village that we had to sing a song on the journey back so of course us three thought for the whole evening of what to sing. A few suggestions from I (Grace) were Baa Baa Black Sheep, Twinkle Little Star and Wheels on the Bus. But then I (Andy) came up with the ace idea of singing a Leicester City song - My Leicester my only Leicester etc. There was one of the guys on the bus and he took it upon himself to be in charge of the singing! We got our chance to sing and of course did the song proud :). Then we got another shock when the bus driver made us all sing "She'll be coming round the mountain" and whilst we were doing this she continually drove round the roundabout! All three of us were laughing so much and this just made us laugh even more! It has to be the funniest bus journey we have ever had!
When we got back from Moari night, the three of us decided to go to the local night club called Lava. It was alright at first but the music just got worse and worse, the D.J didnt seem to know how to mix!! There were 6-7 police called into the nigthclub too which put us off even more!
The next day we did the Luge (Google) which was excellent fun. We went on all three courses(beginner, intermididate and expert) but some faired better than others! Andy and Grace had a race on the expert course which was full of fast corners etc. I (Andy) won the first race and then I (Grace) won the second, this was because I (Andy) had a crash where I ended up in the mud breaking my jeans in the process so of course I (Grace) checked he was ok but before he could get back on his luge got to the finish line so it was one race win each.
In the afterernoon we went to a place called 'The Agrodrome' which basically had lots of extreame sports there and also there was a farm you could go to from there, we didnt do the farm just the sports there. We did a new ride called the Schweeb (a German word meaning- 'to float') (check google). This is hard to explain but basically its 2 equal lenght tracks which look a bit like an upside down monorail, which you are enclosed in a capsule on each track, which is basically a bike, so its basically a gloryfied bike race, but the capsule tips 60 degrees on corners, its a great ride and its the only one in the world, fantastic!!. I (Andy) also did the parachute simulator, which is basically lyeing down on a massive fan and it powers you off the ground as if you were freefalling, I (Andy) got extra time as Grace bailed out at the last second. great fun but difficult to stay in the air as a sudden movement meant you fell back to the ground. We then drove onto Taupo
