We arrived in Melbourne Avalon airport monday afternoon, the Avalon airport is 30 mins from Melbourhne and so u get the 'Sun Bus' to MMelbourne city centre. We arrived at our hostel and checked in, we only had a couple of hours to look around before we were heading off for Neighbours Night!!!!. Neighbours Night was brilliant, when we walked in we were randomly put on a table, where we met Ben and Niki from Bristol, they were a really nice couple and we got6 on really well. The night was really well organised and we got to meet Dr Karl and saw him play live with his band 'The Waiting Room'. We also met Rachael Kinksky (my fave (Andy)) Steve Parker, Jannelle Tymons and Malcom Kennedy!!! and ofcourse not forgetting a a man in a giant dog costume as Bouncer the Dog!!! All the Neighbours stars came round the room and stopped and chatted to everyone having photos taken etc.. dr Karl and his band were really good, they did there england tour set which was mainly cover songs such as Ruby. Mr Brightside and they did a great version of Champagne Supernova. The Neighbours night is really good even if u dont like Neighbours as its a great chance to meet fellow travelers and Brits, and they do a general knowledge quiz.
The next day we visited Melbourne Aquarium and saw lots of Aussie fish. At the aquarium they seemed to be on a mission to stop people being scared of sharks, they had lots of talks on them. There was an Oceanariurm section where you walk through a massive tunnel and saw the divers feeding the all the fish, like stingrays, sharks etc. All the food was fed by hand except for the sharks who were fed on the end of a stick, also there was a turtle in there that tried top nick all the food!!
We then made the long walk to the neighbours tour shop where i (Andy) brought a stubbie holder and 2 dvds, also in the shop was the lod Whirl Witzer jukebox from the coffee chop and the Scarlett Bar sign.
The next day we went on the Neighbours tour. They said there was going to be filming in Ramsey Street, today so we were excited about that even thou it was pouring down with rain there was no way we were gonna miss our neighbours tour (our whole reason of coming to Melbourne!!!) The tour first took us to Erinsbough High School where we stood with the sign but to be honest it could have been any school as the tour lady had to bring the sign with her. We were then taken to where the studios are (not inside thou) outside the studios is the outside sets off Grease Monkeys, Carpenters Mechanics and the bus stop where everyone (charactors) leaves Neighbours for Queensland. We also saw the gates where Sky left Prision. We were then taken to Ramsey Street, we arived and the street was corned off for filming, all the trucks here in the street but there was no filming as it was raining (it never rains in Neighbours!!) so i was dissapointed. Ramsey Street looks so much smaller in real life, and i solved the riddle of why whenever a car leaves Ramsey Street in Neighbours it always turns left, every time!, the reason is because round to the left is a big carpark where they park all the mobile dressing rooms and stuff so the cars head for that when they leave!! there is also access to the Carpark for number 30. At the end of our tour we got to meet a blast from the past, 'Dr Darcy Tyler' aka Mark Rafferty i (Andy) was well pleased as he has been one of my favorites. We got him to sign Ramsey Street postcards for our mums as we thought they would appreciate a Neighbours gift as they are big fans too!! He came across really well and was pleased to meet everybody, and even a retired pilot who hated Neighbours and was only there becasue of his wife said he came across well.
Throughout our time in Melbourne we used the free city tram to get around it saved us alot in transport money and we even used it to get to where the bus would pick us up for the airport althou we were late and had to run!!!
