We arrived in Sydney fropm Wllington by plane loosing two hoursa. We got to out first hostel in Sydney which was a little walk from the city centre.
Our first day was spent going to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge and Circular Quay - the main Quay from where every gets their boats to the other subarbs of Sydney. We visited the place where the 2000 Olypmics were held. It took about 40 minutes on the boat to get there. The stadium was massive and has since been used for the 2003 Rugby Final and football qualifiers. We had a stadium tour which was really interesting and the tour guide took us all around to the changing rooms (not as good as Leicester City's mind!!), medical roon and the VIP room. When the stadium first opended there were tickets for sale for $32,000.00 and this meant the holder has a ticket for every single event held at the stadium for the next 32 years, this includes all the sporting and music events. They also get to bring one guest with them. Outside the stadium they also have the Olympic flame on display with all the medal holders and yes - Maroin Jones' name is still there! We also looked at all the names of the people who helped with the making of the stadium and found all the Skinner, Wallis, Frazier and Wells names - they might be relatives!
We went to go and have a climb on the Sydney Harbour Bridge but when they told us the price would be $200 - we soon decided to spend our money some place else! We re-thought our day and instead spent our time at Darling Harbour. We had a really good day at the Wildlife Park, IMAX Theatre and watching a performer.
The performer was really good but of course he wanted money at the end - so what with us being backpackers we only gave $1.
At the Wildlife Park we saw kangaroos, wombats, snakes, spirders etc. Australia has some of the most dangerous species so it was good to be looking at them through their glass cages!! We also walked through a bit where all the butterflys were flying about freely. It was really hot in there but amazing to see them up close. One butterfly even tried to escape on a family's pushchair - it was quite funny watching them trying to get it back in the butterfly area!
We stayed in Sydney city centre for 3 nights and then on Bondi Beach for 2 nights. Our Sydney hostel was quite good and the rooms were spacious and we were sharing with some dutch guys who were quite chatty. Our Bondi hostel wasn't such a good experience though, the rooms were cramped and the people in our room were always drunk and we couldn't understand what they were saying to us because of their accents.
We spent a day at The Blue Mountains which took a 2 hour train ride each way to get there. We rode on the Steepest Ride in the world and saw The Three Sisters. We took a trolly bus to take us around.
We tried to do some dolphin watching whilst in Sydney but it was out of season for them so I (Grace) was really disappointed as we had tried to do it in New Zealand but the weather was too bad - hopefully one day!
We left the sights of Sydney for Melbourne - the one place I (Andy) was very excited to visit!
