After a long flight we finally arrived in 'paradise'. We waited what seemed like forever for the shuttle bus to the hostel. When we did get there, we were really pleased with where we had picked to stay, it was more like a hotel. We also got upgraded to a deluxe double because we had to wait before we could check in. The weather was really hot - well into the 30's.
After one night in Nadi we made our way to Beachcomber Island. We got a shuttle bus to Denaru Port and then a boat to the Island. What happens is, everyone gets on the main boat which drops off at loads of the islands but then as you arrive at your designated island, a little boat comes and takes you from the main one to the island. Its all really well organised and you dont have to carry your bags at all.
After we were settled in our dorm (it had about 100 beds) we had a walk around the island which took about 5 minutes. We then got chatting to some of the others and quickly had a nice group of people. We met Tracie, Nicky and Rory who are from Ireland and nearly finished their travelling, Claire who is from Yorkshire, Dave from Norfolk and Cat from Brisbane. It is all very relaxed on the island and all we did was sunbath and drink. All the food was included and this was brekfast, lunch and dinner at the same time everyday - our stomachs quickly got acustomed to the times! I (Andy) played Volleyball and crazy golf whilst I (Grace) saw the beautician :). Everynight there was entertainment and the band played all the time - they were awsome.
On our first full day on Beachcomber we took a trip to Sunset Waya Island to see a Fijian village and school and do some snorkelling. There was 9 of us on the trip, an Austrlian family of 7 (The Royals) from Brisbane and us 2. They adopted us for the day and were really nice. We all had a great time. The village was eye opening and the school was enjoyable to look round and we even had our photo taken with the Nursey class. The snorkelling was really good, the Royals helped me (Andy) to master it. The coral was amazing and it was a great day. When we returned I (Grace) had sun burn on my back. It was really bad - check the photos!
We had a total of 4 nights on Beachcomber and our best night was the crab race night. There were 20 crab names, all representing different countries i. e Rooney England, Skippy Australia etc etc. All the crabs were auctioned and everyone bid for the crab they wanted. Our group brought Zidane France and we won!!!!! We all put in 3 pounds each and won back 18 pounds back each so it was a good night all round.
Everynight we did the Bula dance which is their equivilant of the Maccarina or Wigfields Saturday night etc. It was all good drunken fun.
The motto on the Island was "Drink Beer, Save Water" ..... To the bar!!!!
We went back to Nadi for our last night before flying to Auckland.
