Today was our first day in Taupo. Taupo is quite a big city, and has a massive lake in the middle of the city, which is almost outside of our hostel. It was raining when we woke up, actually that's a lie, the rain woke us up. It was raining that heavy I thought the roof was going to cave in! So we got up, and dressed. We went for a look around the hostel, and decided it was time to bite the bullet and go outside for a walk to get some groceries.
And of course I would forget my umbrella! The walk wasn't terrible, as we were undercover mostly, but we still got a bit wet. This time we decided not to get noodles and bread, but get actual food. I want veggies like you wouldn't believe! Our shopping basket had mince, pasta, steak, bread, crinkle cut chips, sugar, milk, porridge & tea! It looked delicious. The price wasn't pretty either. But it would be worth it!
We came back home and were a bit hungry, so we set off in search for Maccas! (Where I forgot my umbrella, AGAIN) But came across this little cafe that had 'Pumpkin & Lentil' soup, and Kristy has been talking about pumpkin soup for agggges! So we went in. I got some lovely fresh fish, with chips & a greek salad. $25.50 later... The meal was pretty good, but Kristy said her soup was mostly lentils, and couldn't taste the pumpkin, so that sucked. After that we just went back to the room, it was raining too bad to do anything.
Earlier we had put a load of washing on, so as I was folding mine in the laundry room, AJAH walks past! So we get talking to her and decide to hang out a bit later. When Emily got back, we thought it would be nice to go out for a few drinks after dinner.
We let Ajah know, and she was only too keen! We all got ready, and headed down around 9pm. We were the only ones in the bar, apart from the one guy playing pool.. He came over and joined us and gradually more people started to come down. It turned out to be a pretty good night! AND I came home with $5 left in my bag!
