We had to get up at 9am to pack our stuff to check out. As soon as I woke up I could feel my whole body aching. The bruises were worse and my muscles were so sore! But I still had to get up and get ready.
We had to check out at 10am and our bus wasn't due until 5.30pm, so we had a lot of time to do nothing! Most of the time I spent it reading, writing postcards, in my diary (which needed catching up) and even watched a movie. It was raining pretty bad as well, which wasn't appealing at all. When it was finally time to walk down to the bus, we were lucky that is wasn't raining and even luckier that our bus was only 3mins late!
It was a quick ride to Hamiliton, where we had to change buses. The new bus driver was absolutely rude to Kristy! It was another short ride to Tiaru, where we had to change buses again, but this time we had to wait for 3 and a half hours! It was already 8.30pm! We got off the bus, and went across to the Caltex petrol station where it was quite well lit to figure out what to do from there.
The shop attendant came out, and expressed his concern for us being there alone. We didn't think too much of it. We went and got dinner, which for me, consisted of an old meat pie and a coke zero and went and sat out on the bench on the footpath just outside of Caltex. This is where a lady came up and told us it was quite a dodgy neighbourhood and that she could drop us off in a town we had never heard of, and she even offered for us to stay the night at hers! That worried us a bit..
The next hour, nothing bad happened, Caltex was still open, so we still felt pretty safe. Then at about 9.30, a creepy van pulled in to the petrol station. He just sat in his car, didn't get fuel or go into the shop. Then a few minute later a station wagon pulled into a pump, and the guy from the van came over and started talking to him. The whole time they stared at us, and made us feel very uncomfortable. No one got fuel or anything.. Weird.
At just after 10pm, Caltex closed, and the shop attendant left. The two guys were still there, talking. Then they started to leave. As the station wagon was leaving, he called out to us 'Yeah, stay there girl, we'll, ah, be seeing you soon!' Then sped away. Luckily, a security guard pulled in at that point and I ran up to him and told him what happened and asked if we could check up on us until we leave, which he was happy to do. He also said he didn't like the fact we were there waiting as well.
We decided to take our stuff and go closer to the shop, and hopefully out of everyone's view. We still had over an hour to go.. That hour went waaay too slow.. When we did finally walk over to the bus stop and wait, our bus was 20mins late, but the driver made up for it in kindness, he was lovely! It wasn't too long of a ride to Taupo, and he even dropped us right off at our hostel, so we didn't have to walk in the rain!
We checked in at 2.30am, and of course the elevator wasn't working. and OF COURSE we were on the top floor! I hope no one wanted to sleep, as we would have woken everyone carrying our heavy luggage up those tiny, narrow stairs! We got to our room, and tried very hard not to wake our sleeping roommate, but that didn't happen.. It actually turned out to be Emily! The girl we also shared a room with in Rotoura! So that was good, I quite like her!
We had full intentions of sleeping all day, but I somehow doubt that will happen!
