Χρονιά ποππά Clayton!
That would be happy birthday in Greek.
Please don't ask me how to pronounce it. The lady tried to teach me, but believe me when I say it was hopeless.
This morning we woke up to the ship braking into piraeus port. It's bittersweet being back in Athens. I love Athens, but the cruise was fantastic and I could've done a few more days.
We metroed back to our hotel, ditched our bags, and began our final day in Athens.
We bought another Greek doughnut, of course. Don't even get me started about them again. There are doughnuts and then there are Greek doughnuts. 'nuff said.
So then we went and got ourselves lost in the national gardens. When we finally found our way out(it's a maze, I swear) we went to syntagma square to scope out the metro to the airport for tomorrow. Then we saw a high hill and decided it would be a great idea to climb it. We discovered it was called lykavittos hill, and you could either cable car it or climb it. Cable cars are for the weak, of course, so we stretched the legs, tied the shoes tighter, and got to work. A winding hiking trail and 267 steps later we reached the top. Lykavittos hill is the highest point in Athens, and the views were amazing. After we walked down and headed back to monstiraki, and had lunch under the acropolis. Then we just walked around and chilled out, as we had had a very early morning (5:30am.. It's great to be up before the sun is!)
Tomorrow we ditch greece for italy. It's sad, but I currently have a Greek song stuck in my head so I know it's time for the next leg of our adventure.
