I did not have very high expectations of Patmos, and I was very impressed with this stop. After a few hours sailing away from kusadasi, we pulled into the bay of Patmos. Patmos is a small island in the dodacanese of Greece. The island forms a small hilly crescent, with traditional white buildings built up the sides.
When we were waiting to disembark, we overheard a family talking about taking a taxi to the top of the highest hill where there is a monastery hanging over the town, and then walking back down. We thought this sounded like a great idea, so we did just that. The views from the monastery where amazing, as was the monastery itself. It was a stone building with ancient white interiors and small decorated courtyards. There was a holy man walking around in a robe with a long beard lighting candles. I got a picture with him, no big deal. He was a pretty cool guy. Future friends? Oh yeah.
After we had our fill, we made our way down the path. The views where great. In town we had some Greek treats(to die for) and shopped a bit. The quiet stores where a nice break from kusadasi's bazzar. There where no men chasing you down the street, begging you to buy their magnets for 'VERY GOOD PRICE! I GIVE YOU THE BEST DEAL!' What really struck me about this island was how traditional it feels. Where Mykonos was more glitzy and done up, this island has a more down to earth feel to it. We saw as many locals as tourists, and a surprising amount of Greek teenagers. I'd say i definitely underestimated Patmos.
