High point of the holiday so far - literally!
The Top of Table Mountain!
One knocked off the Bucket List for sure:-)
We woke this morning to a quiet and ca False Bay, so we decided to go for it and take a trip up that famous edifice. By the time we reached the cable car base station it was 38 degrees! Reaching the top was cooler - only 35 degrees!!!
After a little brunch I persuaded Kate that it'd be a good idea to walk to the highest point - Mc Beacon - about an hour away across the plateau.
Getting there wasn't so bad - the heat was incredible and the breeze almost non-existent - so we baked.
The return journey was a different matter.
We'd taken a different route back - right along the front edge of the mountain, with occasional glimpses of the 3554 foot drop on our right - gulp. And boy was it hot - much longer up there and there would have been two cases of sunstroke.
As it was we made it back to the café for well earned ice creams and water and them returned via the cable car to our hire car. Then we took the road to Hout Bay along Chapman's Peak Road - cut into the vertical cliff face above the breakers below - spectacular.
Lunch on Houts Bay was great and Kate is convinced that she saw Helen Mirren there!
Now, I mentioned earlier that the start of the day was calm and quiet - well, within an hour of our descent from the mountain The Doctor returned - dropping the temperature by 13 degrees in minutes. Now there's a howling gale again - but I'm sitting in my shorts on the veranda sipping Pinot Grigio - what a life.
